The Gabriola Chamber Ensemble’s gifted and talented musical director, Brad Shipley, leads an enthusiastic group of instrumentalists and singers who share a love of classical music from early 15th century to 20th century composers. Ever striving to grow in range and complexity, the GCE has a long-standing, continuing presence as Gabriola Island’s premier classical ensemble.
Formed in 1998, the GCE was first composed of instrumental musicians only, while singers were added a few years later. Its original mandate was to provide aspiring, young Gabriolan musicians with the opportunity to play in an orchestra alongside more experienced ones. John Capon was the GCE’s first musical director, followed by Leah Hokanson, and now Brad Shipley.
The GCE has two sessions per year: September to December with concert, and January through April with concert. Rehearsals are Monday evenings at Christ Church Gabriola. The choir and orchestra rehearse separately at first before coming together a week or two prior to concerts.
The Gabriola Chamber Ensemble welcomes singers and instrumentalists of all ages and levels of musicality, who are willing to learn and follow direction.
Membership Dues are $75 per session.
Rehearsals are held on Monday evening at Christ Church, Gabriola Island
