Pitch, Blend, Balance

This exciting workshop opportunity for all voices will be led by Morna Edmundson and Willi Zwozdesky. 

This will be a wonderful day of learning and singing together with two exceptionally talented and widely respected clinicians. Morna and Willi will use music suited for equal voice groups (SSA and TTBB) as well as mixed SATB voices.  The groups will work both separately and together throughout the day.

Morna Edmundson

Morna Edmundson is one of Canada’s best-known choral conductors with a strong reputation for excellence.

Passionate since childhood about choral singing, Morna obtained degrees and diplomas in vocal music in Vancouver, Bellingham, and Stockholm, Sweden where her teachers included Eric Ericson.

Morna is Artistic Director of EnChor Choir, an auditioned 60-voice ensemble for experienced singers 55+. She is best known for her work as Artistic Director of Elektra, a celebrated adult treble choir based in Vancouver. Morna has adjudicated in North America and Asia, conducted state honour choirs and at women’s choir festivals, co-directed the American Choral Directors Association National Women’s Honour Choir, and gives frequent workshops with adult and youth choirs.

Her accomplishments have been recognized with the BC Choral Federation’s Healey Willan Award (2000), a BC Community Achievement Award (2009), YWCA Woman of Distinction Award, Arts and Culture category (2011), and UBC Alumni Builder Award (2017).  In May 2023 she was awarded the degree Doctor of Letters (Honorary) by the University of British Columbia. In December 2024 she was made a member of the Order of Canada.

Morna is an energetic and respected choral community-builder, having served on the board of Chorus America for nine years and in her current role as Past President of Choral Canada.

Willi Zwozdesky (MA/MMus)

A life-long love of choral music continues to fuel Willi Zwozdesky’s career as a choral conductor, arranger, publisher, and administrator. 

Now in his 45th season as Artistic Director and Conductor of the Vancouver Men’s Chorus (VMC), Willi is also Co-Artistic Director of Unison Choruses Canada for their upcoming national Unison Festival in May, 2026 in Vancouver. His long-term dedication to choral music has been recognized with both a Legacy Award from GALA Choruses and a Willan Award from the British Columbia Choral Federation for outstanding service.

Willi Zwozdesky’s undergraduate work at the University of Alberta (BMus, music theory) led to graduate studies (MA in music theory, MMus in choral conducting) at the University of Washington in Seattle. Following his move to Vancouver in 1981, he undertook the development of the voice of the Vancouver Men’s Chorus. An active choral clinician and adjudicator, Willi was honoured to conduct the inaugural performance of GALA Choruses’ Sage Elders Chorus in 2024 in Minneapolis.

Willi has also volunteered on a number of national and regional organizations, including the Canadian Music Centre and GALA Choruses, Inc. In addition to his freelance work, he enjoys a long-term career in the global print music industry, and has served as the Executive Director of the British Columbia Choral Federation since 2005 and on the national Board of Directors of Choral Canada from 2008-2025.
