Yellow Point Singers began in 1997 when parents of graduating students thought that they, too, would like to be singing on a regular basis, as school choirs do. The first evenings of song were in the home of local participants.
Today, Yellow Point Singers is a four part non-auditioned community choir which meets weekly September to May to rehearse. Each Wednesday evening 7:00 – 9:00 pm about 40 singers travel to Cedar Community Hall from the Cedar area as well as Nanaimo and Ladysmith.
The choir performs for local care homes, and hosts two concerts annually in December and in early May. Each spring and fall they hold a day-long singing workshop with a wonderful pot-luck at the noon-hour break. Some members are known to frequent the Crow and Gate after rehearsal as “drinkers with a singing problem”. The choir has participated in all Nanaimo Sings! events as well as other local choral activities.
